Stuff: New Car Shopping: Some Things Don't Change
Just got a new car last month. Got another Toyota because they're
about the best value, highest reliability, car on the road today. But we
found the same old frustration in dealing with dealership salespeople
that we've experienced for over 30 years. Our local dealership (Marina
del Rey area) changed the "done deal" so often - available
options, price, financing - that we finally walked out and made our deal
elsewhere. Our Marina dealer must have been very surprised since the car
was sitting at the curb ready to drive away. What we learned (again): As
in any successful negotiation, you have to be willing to walk away to
get integrity from the other side.
