Entrepreneurial
Management: On Doing Business In Asia
Most people believe Asia will be very important to Southern
California's economy in the years ahead. John Naisbitt (Megatrends)
believes Asia is driving the entire world's economy. His views are very
compelling, not only because of his reputation as a brilliant author and
futurist but also because he is actively involved in business ventures
in Asia. A recent book, Megatrends Asia (Simon & Schuster, 1996)
contains some key conclusions that we should all take under
consideration in our planning. For example:
-
Europe and the European Union are irrelevant. There is not enough
growth potential there.
- Japan will not grow, and its influence is in decline.
-
The Overseas Chinese network is the third largest economy in the
world.
It is not necessary to agree with Naisbitt's views, but we believe it
is essential that you know what they are. If you do business, or plan
to, anywhere in Asia, his book is essential reading. If you don't plan
to, you should probably read it today.
